It's hard to imagine a better festival in which to premiere than the Boston Science Fiction Film Festival. Seven Seconds was in the very first shorts block of the festival on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 6:00 p.m., along with a cool assortment of science fiction films -- and even a great animated film called When Planets Mate that explored the origins of the universe in a blend of science, science fiction, and Hindu mythology. It's hard to describe, but it reminded so much of my favorite animated films -- like Fantastic Planet. You can get a taste of it through the trailer. There was also a film that took a valiant shot at one of my favorite Stephen King short stories, I am the Doorway. It's not the first attempt to adapt the story, but may be the best to date. You can listen to a reading of the short story here. Someday, I'd like to take a crack at my vision for the story, one that captures the Lovecraft-ian themes that stuck with me as a young man reading his first anthology of horror stories, King's Night Shift. There was also a nicely done noir Sci-Fi film called truth.exe.
Boston ScFi is a 49 year old passion project founded, run, and staffed by a group of fun, bright, and cool people who I was privileged to get to know. Chock this up to one of the most emotional and fun experiences of my life.
